Mastodon Fanfare explores the over the top sound of a fanfare. The piece opens which what seems to be a somewhat standard brass fanfare, but increases instrumentation to involve the rest of the symphonic band and percussion.
Mastodon refers to the now extinct animal similar to modern day elephants, more specifically Asian elephants. Mastodons disappeared from the planet over 10,000 years ago as a result of over hunting by humans. Modern day elephants seem to be experience a similar fate compounded with the change and limitation of environment.
