"Saltarello”, in this instance, is a 14th century lively dance from Italy. Originally, this piece is monphonic with a repeated 4 phrases as seen in estampies. Estampies are believed to be the oldest surviving examples of purely instrumental music from Western Europe. The arranger fell in love with a recoridng of this Saltarello during Freshman Music History, and always wanted to arrange the piece for a larger ensemble. She founf the opportunity when she was asked to be one of the conductors for the Atlanta Flute Club’s 2015 Honors Flute Choir.
